to ensure a consistently-safe, harassment-free place where players of all ages and backgrounds can come together and execute the sweetest of aerial goals and backflip saves, this week rocket league dev psyonix is rolling out 'player mute' and 'report' systems that will automatically resolve reports if offending players uttered certain words or racial slurs.
what does the report system aim to address?
psyonix says that they receive thousands of reports from rocket league players a day, most of which deal with in-game abuse and harassment. the ‘language ban’ system rolling out this week automatically assesses those reports and records players that frequently use language from an internal list of words and slurs.
how does the 'language ban' system work?
the 'language ban' system, will automatically ban players from online matches when certain words -- racial slurs, for example -- are seen in reports filed by our players. initially there will be a list of over 20 words (and variants) - undisclosed to the public - however, this list will continue to evolve over time to include words and phrases from multiple languages for example. after a certain amount of repeated offenses, the system automatically doles out bans to offending players, starting first at 24 hours and escalating incrementally until a permanent ban is issued.
many players are hoping "trade" is a word that leads to an immediate ban, as there are too many players randomly invite other players for a trade. we still don't this kind of word in the list, but psyonix notes they will organically update our ban policies and system logic as time goes on, of course, but the rocket league community is the most important element of them all.
how do you use the 'language ban' system to report harassment?
if you see another player using abusive language during your match, you can report them, mute them, and let psyonix take care of the rest.
appeal for season 4 rewards
beside introducing the new rocket league report system, psyonix also update an appeal for the season 4 rewards denial. as several hundreds of players who were found abusing the matchmaking system to increase their rank (such as gaming the system to force a win or a loss, etc), were not rewarded rocket league season 4 rewards for their actions at the end of competitive season 4. now any player caught in this net who would like to submit an appeal can reach out to psyonix's support team at support.rocketleague.com, or via @rl_support on twitter.
