your hongmoon weapon is your first upgradable weapon acquired through the main story quest. it progresses in strength with your character if you have the materials to upgrade it. weapons and accessories have two different systems to breakthrough, as the weapon will need a class specific breakthrough item. each stage of blade and soul weapon progression has 5 basic levels, and a breakthrough level. basic levels just require basic materials (any generic weapon)

breakthrough requires specific materials (specific weapon and crafting materials). it is important to upgrade you hongmoon weapon to easily progress through the game. you will receive your hongmoon weapon from the main quest line. after that you can begin to upgrade it.
