i've read lots of feeling about the eso demo. the dissatisfaction for players is the striking sense.
there is no doubt that the striking sense is quite bad. what are the shortages of the striking sense? after carefully studying, i summarize some aspects as following:
1. no sound bug
personally, the sound is the most obviously weakness, because the frequency is two high. its reflection is that there is no sound for some second in fighting suddenly.
i believe, however, the problem will be solved when the game is officially launched. so do not worry too much.
2. monster’s reflection (including monster’s animation and the effect of dashing blood), the effect of waving weapons and hitting effect is not obvious.
in general, players chop monsters with a sword and can see a big flash with the obvious effect of dashing much blood in online games. without those effects, a game would be little sense of fighting.
in fact, there are such effects in eso, realistic and slight. thus, we do not notice them if we are not careful.
i conclude the currency effects in the elder scrolls online. we can see and notice them while we play the game.
i. spilling blood
according the direction of attacking, there are different directions of spilling blood. enemies from different races have different color blood. for example, mudcrab has yellow-green blood.
ii. character’s bodies are as the aim. while they are hit, there is a small ranger of visual shock.
iii. when monsters are hit, all of their movement are broken off. moreover, the reflection seems directional (some of monsters are the exception).
iv, monsters with critical strike are significantly different (i test it with the critical-strike skill for the two-handed weapon).
v. the animations of monster death are directional (the way monsters fall down relates your attacking direction).
i guess those effects will be improved as the game is realized.
3. it is not show numbers in attacking.
when we play some online games, we always star at the number on the screen. the bigger the numbers are, the happier we feel. the habit can actually make us to neglect the shortage of bad hitting effects (because we don’t pay attention to the game's animation at all).
eso has no sct, so we concentrate on the eso animation and the problem of hitting effects will be enlarged. but no sct set is one of eso designing principle (minimum ui). thus, there is no way to change.
overall, i think the eso has too many elements for us to look forward to. i do not particularly care the sense of hitting. but many players said that they would give up the game due to the bad hitting effects. it is really a pity.
i think, however, z communities must have heard the voice of the players. we can look forward to the next test and witness the eso improvements!
